Firefighters Recognized for Service (April 21, 2007)
At their recent annual recognition dinner, Schooley’s Mountain firefighters honored several of their own with service awards. Twelve firefighters were recognized for the number of responses they handled in 2006. Firefighter Greg Mackenzie was acknowledged for the most responses during the year. The highlight of the event was the celebration of 35 years of active service by Past Chief Jeff Lloyd. Jeff served as Company Chief in 1986 – 1988 and was instrumental in the formation of the Washington Township Fire Department in 1984. He served as Chief of the then newly formed Department and continues to serve the company as corresponding secretary, assistant treasurer, and frequent apparatus operator. Members gave him a standing ovation for his continuing dedication and commitment to the fire service. Jeff was also presented with a Proclamation from the Township Committee honoring his service on May 21.
Also recognized at the event was Department Chief Kurt Wanner. Kurt has served the fire company for 20 years and has been a prominent player in advancing the technology and operational procedures of the Department. Kurt was presented with an etched glass tray for his outstanding service.
