New Sign gets New Surroundings (Aug. 10, 2000)

The new station sign erected in December 1999, now has a new foundation to enhance it's appearance. Thanks to the efforts of an Eagle Scout candidate, the "gateway" to the fire station has been made even more attractive.

The sign was hand carved by Wood Signs/Creative Craftsmen of Wayne NJ. A member's father-in-law is a member of a woodworking club affiliated with Wood Signs, who eagerly took on the project. Based on an SMFPA design, they enhanced it to complement the overall atmosphere of the mountaintop station and the surrounding community.

The sign planter and landscape project was community service Eagle Scout Project necessary for Brian Wanner to obtain Eagle Scout. The Eagle project is designed to provide service to the community and for the Scout to demonstrate planning and leadership in carrying out the project.
