Residents thankful for firefighters' help
April 28, 2005
WASHINGTON TWP. - Spring rain brings flooding to Morris County.

Editor,

I am now prouder than ever to live in Long Valley.

The firefighters from the Schooley’s Mountain Co. are truly selfless heroes. On Saturday April 2, my finished basement began to fill with water.

Within a half hour of the call for help a crew of six men arrived to contain the rising water. After the water retreated to the sump well the crew moved on to a neighbor down the street.

At about 1 a.m., the water was coming up again and I was considering making another call when a second crew stopped by to see how we were doing.

This crew seemed to consist of some fathers and sons who went right to work lowering the water level.

By 3 a.m. we were in pretty good shape. I can’t thank these guys enough for their hard work.

I didn’t get all their names and I’d hate to forget any one of them, so thank you all.

Some of the younger guys joked that my Rec. room would be a perfect clubhouse for the firemen (minus the water). Well, they are welcome anytime and when I get the room back in shape we’re throwing a firemen’s party.
