Fire Company Receives Grant (December 4, 2006)
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service recently presented the Schooley's Mountain Fire Company with a grant award through the United States Forest Service Volunteer Fire Assistance Program. The grant, in the amount of $3000, will be used to purchase firefighting equipment to supplement brush and wildland firefighting capabilities.
The major goal of the Volunteer Fire Assistance Program is to assist fire companies that are located within rural regions or that protect rural areas of New Jersey with the purchase of communications equipment, personal protective fire clothing or firefighting equipment. The Forest Service recognized the commitment of the Fire Company to improve firefighting capabilities and assist with fire protection responsibilities within and adjacent to the wildland/urban interface areas of New Jersey, and commended the Fire Company's efforts to improve their ability to serve and protect the residents of New Jersey.
State Fire Warden Maris Gabliks and Assistant Director/State Forester James Barresi presented the check to the Fire Company. Assistant Chief Carey applied for the grant earlier this year, following several large brush fires where state resources were required.
