Firefighters attend FDNY training (March 13, 2004)

SMFPA firefighters attended a seminar at the FDNY training facility at Randall's Island in New York City. The Bureau of Training and three other FDNY units operate at the New York City Fire Academy. The Academy is situated on 27 acres of land on Randall's Island near the hub or the Triboro Bridge connecting the three boroughs of Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx. The seminar included training on firefighter safety and survival, ladder operations, building construction and much more. It was sponsored by The New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation, a non-profit organization of firefighters founded in 1975, dedicated to the advancement of burn care, research, prevention, education, and the proper treatment of burns.

Lieutenant Al Pierce and Assistant Chief Keith Heimburg toured the grounds just prior to the seminar.
