Firefighters adopt fellow smoke-eater (November 12, 2005)

Members of SMFPA recently "adopted" a resident of the New Jersey Firemen's Home in Boonton. At the annual State Firefighters Convention, it was suggested that fire companies around the state recognize the contributions and experience of those now living in the home. Since many of the residents may not have family members living nearby, having local fire departments visit provides an extra boost to their well-being.

William McColl was an active firefighter in several departments in California and New Jersey, most recently retiring from the Pompton Lakes Fire Department. He loves to spend time outdoors and was a plumber by trade. He celebrated his 86th birthday on November 11 and Schooleys Mountain Fire made sure the event did not go unrecognized. Bill was presented with a cake, cookies and an SMFPA golf shirt.
