Morris County Memorial Service (September 12, 2004)

The memories of fallen firefighters as well as those who were lost in the 9-11 tragedy were remembered at the annual County fallen firefighters memorial service.

Schooleys Mountain and Long Valley Fire Companies participated along with numerous other Morris County Departments in a solemn remembrance of firefighters from the County who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The ceremony began at the Police & Fire Academy, where hundreds of firefighters paid tribute to their departed members.

Area police and fire departments and rescue squads then marched in procession to the Morris County Sept. 11 Memorial from the county Firefighters and Police Training Academy nearby.

There the 64 victims from Morris County including one from Washington Township, were honored and remembered with singing, bagpipes, speeches, a 21-gun salute, a candlelight vigil and the playing of taps. As the name of each victim was read, the bell on engine 35-61 was tolled.
